Israel violating ceasefire

Israeli forces continue to violate the Gaza ceasefire agreement with Hamas weeks after the long-awaited truce deal entered into force. At least one Palestinian was killed and another injured in an Israeli drone strike in Rafah, southern Gaza. Gaza’s health ministry has also reported three fatalities as a result of Israeli live fire. Meanwhile, eight more bodies were recovered from the rubble during the past day. The ministry says nearly 120 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect last month. The death toll from Israeli genocide since October 2023 has surpassed 48,000. More than 111,000 others have been injured. The Israeli onslaught has destroyed much of Gaza’s vital infrastructure. The United Nations says over 53 billion dollars will be required to rebuild the territory and end the humanitarian catastrophe there.

'Israel tortures doctor'

In yet another display of brutality, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, has been subjected to severe mistreatment and torture by Israel since his arrest by regime forces in December. Dr. Abu Safia’s Lawyers reported that he has endured beatings, electric shocks, and prolonged solitary confinement. His lawyer also said Dr. Abu Safia has lost 12 kilograms in less than two months due to his deteriorating health condition. The al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, representing Abu Safia, has called for his immediate and unconditional release, saying his detention is in violation of international law. This case has drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations worldwide.

US-China tensions

The passage of two US naval ships through the Taiwan Strait this week has provoked a strong reaction from China, which says the mission has increased security risks. The Chinese military said it had monitored the movements of the USS Ralph Johnson destroyer, and the USNS Bowditch, a survey ship, as they moved through the waterway between Monday and Wednesday. China also stated that the country is resolutely opposed to the situation and would never allow any outside interference. It emphasized having firm will, full confidence, and capability to uphold the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The US Navy later confirmed the movement of the two vessels through the strait which was the first such mission since President Donald Trump took office last month. It claimed the transits are made in accordance with international law and through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal State. China has always warned the US against military activities in the sea.
