Police claim the officer was responding to calls that Robinson was running in and out of traffic and had assaulted two people. They say the officer resorted to live fire only in self-defense. The city's black community, however, rejected the police account and mounted daily rallies for a week after the shooting. The demonstrators demanded Kenny be fired and charged with homicide.
