FM Araghchi censures US ‘meddlesome, provocative’ policies towards Iran's internal affairs

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi (R) and Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the “meddlesome and provocative” policies of US officials towards the internal affairs of the country.

Araghchi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday following days of foreign-backed riots in many Iranian cities over economic problems.

He said peaceful protests in Iran turned into violent riots by trained foreign terrorists.

The top Iranian diplomat pointed to the importance of maintaining national unity and will to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty.

The Indian foreign minister, for his part, stressed the need for comprehensive efforts to safeguard stability and prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.

Jaishankar expressed New Delhi’s readiness to cooperate with Tehran toward the goal.

He also called for efforts to continue towards the promotion of relations between the two countries.

In a post on his X account, Jaishankar said he had received a call from his Iranian counterpart, during which they discussed “the evolving situation in and around Iran.”

Iranian cities became the scene of protest over economic problems in the past few days. The protests were initially peaceful but turned into violent riot by foreign-backed elements, which resulted in damage to public property and left a number of policemen and security forces, as well as civilians dead.

In an X post on Wednesday, the Iranian foreign minister issued a warning to US President Donald Trump, advising him to resist long-standing Israeli efforts to manipulate the United States into direct military conflict with Iran.

Trump has, over the past days, repeatedly threatened to attack Iran if, as he put it, the country kills what he has termed "peaceful protesters."
