US-Israeli Gaza genocide
Fresh Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip have claimed more Palestinian lives in blatant violation of the ceasefire with Hamas. At least 28 Palestinians, including 17 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City and Khan Yunis since dawn. Dozens have also been injured. The figure includes an entire family of five in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighourhood. Since the Gaza truce took effect, Israel has carried out nearly 4-hundred violations, resulting in close to 3,00 deaths. The US-Israeli genocidal war since October 2023 has so far killed over 69,500 Palestinians, with more than 170,740 others injured.
Plight of Palestinian abductees
A Palestinian prisoners’ rights group has warned that Israel is committing organized executions of Palestinian abductees away from international oversight. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, also known as ASRA, based its warning on data released by the international rights organization, Physicians for Human Rights. ASRA media office said according to Physicians for Human Rights, 98 Palestinian abductees, most of them civilians, have died in Israeli prisons and detention centers since October 7, 2023. The office emphasized that Palestinian abductees are held in Israeli jails without fair trials, and their families are not informed of their fate. It stressed that the regime’s treatment of abductees amounts to extrajudicial killing and qualifies as both a war crime and a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The office said Israel is fully responsible for the deaths of Palestinians abductees, most of whom have lost their lives due to brutal torture, starvation, and deliberate medical neglect. It called on the UN and other international organizations to stop Israel’s crimes against abductees and hold their perpetrators accountable.
Iran-IAEA relations
Iran's foreign minister has denounced a move by three European countries, known as Troika, to pass an anti-Iranian resolution during the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors meeting. Abbas Araghchi made the comment in a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira. Araghchi described the measure taken by the UK, Germany and France as irresponsible, provocative and unjustified. He noted that the resolution drafted by the three European countries seeks to reinstate the UN Security Council’s expired sanctions resolutions against Iran, and further undermines credibility and technical status of the IAEA. Iran's top diplomat stressed that international organizations should not be used by some countries to put pressure on developing states. Araghchi also urged all members of the IAEA Board of Governors to oppose the three European countries’ illegal measure. The remarks came after Iran’s mission in Vienna said the US and three European countries are trying to politicize the Board of Governors with a planned resolution, warning that it would inevitably harm Iran–IAEA cooperation if adopted.
