Hamas slams Trump'sGaza plan

US President Donald Trump has claimed that his country will "take over the Gaza Strip" and will own it. He made the remark after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington DC. Trump added that he wants to resettle the people of Gaza in other countries. He had previously called for Gazans to be displaced permanently to countries like Egypt and Jordan. That call was flatly rejected by Palestinians and both those countries. Elsewhere in his remarks, Trump said many countries will soon be joining the so-called Abraham Accords to establish ties with Israel. Trump oversaw normalization deals between several Arab states and the Zionist regime during his first term in office. Netanyahu hailed Trump as the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House. He claimed that the US president's Gaza plan could change history and was worth paying attention to.

Trump's Gaza plan slammed

Reactions to Trump’s proposal to take over Gaza have not been limited to Palestinian resistance groups. It has also drawn sharp condemnations from members of Congress who warn of further conflict in the occupied Palestine. Democratic lawmakers Ruben Gallego and Eric Swalwell criticized Trump for backtracking on his campaign promise to stop “endless wars”. Gallego even went further and called Trump a warmonger. Some Republicans have also voiced strong opposition to Trump’s plans. Former Congressman Justin Amash, whose father was expelled by Israeli forces in 1948, expressed his concern. He said that deploying American troops to forcibly remove Muslims and Christians from Gaza would not only lead to another reckless occupation but also constitute ethnic cleansing. Amash urged Americans of good conscience to oppose this plan.

Trump's anti-Iran policy

Iran's Foreign Minister says US president's re-imposition of his policy of maximum pressure against Tehran will end in failure as it did during his first term. Abbas Araghchi made the remarks to reporters following a cabinet meeting. Iran’s top diplomat said his country has never sought to obtain nuclear weapons and therefore this should not be a concerning issue for the world. He mentioned that Iran has been a committed member of the NPT, saying that the country’s stance on nuclear weapons is very clear. He also referred to the fatwa from leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei that bans nuclear weapons. Araghchi’s remarks were in response to Trump’s restoration of his maximum pressure campaign on Tehran that includes efforts to drive Iran’s oil exports down to zero.
