Gaza developments devastated Zionists, elevated Islam, resistance: Iran top general

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri speaks in a meeting with staff of Iran’s embassy in Islamabad on January 20, 2025.

Iran’s highest-ranking military commander says the developments in the Gaza Strip over the last 15 months were the beginning of a disaster for the Zionists and the elevation of Islam and the Resistance Front.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks in a meeting with the staff of Iran’s embassy in Islamabad on Monday.

Leading a high-ranking military delegation, Baqeri arrived in the Pakistani capital on Sunday at the invitation of the country’s army chief, General Asim Munir.

Baqeri said the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas exposed the flimsy power of the occupying regime and the global arrogance in the face of the resistance fighters.

“Today is the day that a ceasefire has been imposed on the Zionist regime. American and European officials have admitted to some regional leaders that without their help, the Zionist regime will certainly collapse,” he added.

He emphasized that 15 months of developments in the Gaza Strip were a major turning point in the region, the Muslim world and the resistance front.

The top Iranian general said the global arrogance was mobilized to help the fake Israeli regime against the resistance front but now “we are witnessing the dignity of resistance and surrender of the Zionists to the steadfast will” of the resistance fighters.

The resistance front emerged victorious in its battle against the Israeli regime and imposed the ceasefire on the enemy, the top Iranian military brass added.

“However, our fundamental goal, strategy and roadmap will not change,” he emphasized.

Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire deal with Hamas on Wednesday. The long-awaited agreement went into effect on Sunday after a nearly three-hour delay.

As part of the first phase of the ceasefire deal, Israel on Monday released 90 Palestinian abductees after Hamas freed three Israeli captives.

Iran ‘seriously’ pursues promotion of cooperation with Pakistan

Baqeri stressed the need to strongly safeguard border areas between Iran and Pakistan “because the enemies seek to exploit our borders and we need more cooperation and coordination.”

Pointing to the significance of increasing trade and economic exchanges between the two countries, he said a number of border markets have opened and some others will be inaugurated as well.

The top general added that the Armed Forces of Iran and Pakistan should cooperate more jointly to fight terrorist and separatist groups and improve security.

The Iranian and Pakistani officials are scheduled to discuss the improvement of defense cooperation, particularly in border areas and the fight against terrorism as well as the latest developments in the region and the Muslim world.

Baqeri will hold talks with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
