New film honors assassinated Iranian scientist

We all remember her from these pictures; at the time that her father was assassinated, Armita Rezaeenejad was only 5. Her mother, Shohreh Pirani, was also wounded in the attack. Today, her story has found its way on to the silver screen, revealing new dimensions of how Daryoush Rezaeenejad was martyred.

What made the ordeal even tougher was the fact that Rezaeenejad was shot right in front of his wife and his 5-year-old daughter. The international community, human rights advocates and even the UN remained silent. This prompted his wife to write a letter to then UN secretary general, Ban Ki Moon, denouncing in the strongest terms the assassination of researchers and scientist. Her move inspired a group of filmmakers to make a movie based on the story.

Henas, which literally means breath, is a biopic that dramatizes the story of Dariush Rezaeinejad, a nuclear scientists that was assassinated in 2011. The feminine touch has turned this biopic into a must-see and now, in an open letter, Armita has called on all foreign ambassadors in Iran to watch the movie.

In the words of Armitia, the daughter of the martyred scientist Dariush Rezaeenejad, Iranian or non-Iranian, everyone should watch this movie just to catch a glimpse of the atrocities and human rights violations that are committed against the Iranian people while the international community remains silent.
