A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has criticized the US administration’s language of threat against the Iranian people, saying America’s future will ultimately be determined by the economic conditions at home rather than decisions made in military planning rooms.
Ali Akbar Velayati posted a message on X on Monday, marking the 73rd anniversary of the August 19, 1953 US-backed coup in Iran.
The Anglo-American-engineered coup toppled the democratically elected prime minister of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh, and reinstated the monarchical rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
Velayati said that although 73 years have passed since the coup, the United States continues to rely on the same rhetoric and pressure tactics toward Iran.
He pointed to recent statements by US officials, noting that the US Treasury secretary has spoken of “economic sanctions against Iran” while the US president has reiterated that “all options are on the table.”
However, Velayati said the American people are bearing the costs of the current administration’s hostile policies.
He referred to comments by US Senator John Cornyn who warned of “rising prices and the cost-of-living pressures” facing American families.
“Whatever options may be on the table, America’s future will be decided at the family kitchen table—not around the war-room table,” the Leader’s advisor said.
Velayati’s post comes amid ongoing US-Iran tensions, with Washington continuing to apply economic pressure while Tehran asserts that the regional balance has shifted in its favor.
