Pakistan-Afghanistan war
War is escalating between Pakistan and Afghanistan as Islamabad bombs Kabul overnight, following months of tit-for-tat border clashes between the two countries. Pakistan says it killed 274 Taliban fighters and two of its security personnel died. Contrary to Islamabad's figures, the Taliban spokesperson also claimed that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the clashes while reporting only eight fatalities among their own fighters. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that it is now an open war between the two nations, accusing the Taliban of exporting terrorism and gathering global militants on Afghan soil. The clashes erupted on February 21, following border attacks and a deadly suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad that killed over 30 people. Pakistan insists the attackers were sheltered and trained in Afghanistan; a claim Kabul continues to deny.
Gaza ceasefire violations
The Israeli military has launched new airstrikes on Gaza as the regime presses ahead with its genocidal war despite a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The latest attacks targeted several towns and cities across the besieged territory, including Bureij refugee camp and Rafah. Israeli drones targeted a group of Palestinians near the city of Khan Younis, killing several people. Regime forces also shot dead a civilian in Beit Lahia. The Palestinian health ministry says seven people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Friday. This brings to 72,082 the number of Palestinians killed since October 2023. Most of the casualties are women and children.
