Iranian taekwondo athletes Mobina Nematzadeh and Radin Zeinali secured two gold medals on the third day of the World Under-21 Championships in Nairobi.

The inaugural tournament is currently underway at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. It features 452 competitors from 75 nations fighting for the world title.

Mobina Nematzadeh, a bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, competed in the -53kg category. She received a bye in the first round before defeating opponents from Morocco and Germany. She then secured a decisive victory against a rival from Bosnia to reach the final.

In the gold medal match, Nematzadeh faced Sila Uzunçavdar from Turkey. It was a tough battle that lasted three rounds. However, the Iranian star emerged victorious to claim the top spot on the podium.

In the men’s -74kg division, Radin Zeinali displayed excellent form. He eliminated opponents from Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Spain in the preliminary rounds. Zeinali defeated a representative from the United States in the semifinals. He then overpowered Turkey’s Omer Furkan Korpe in a close final match to win the gold medal.

These victories have significantly boosted Iran’s medal tally.

Earlier in the week, Abolfazl Zandi won gold in the -58kg division, and Amirreza Gholami took gold in the -80kg category. Additionally, Amirmohammad Ashrafi (+87kg) and Hasti Mohammadi (-57kg) previously secured bronze medals for the team.

With four gold medals now confirmed, Iran is in a strong position to claim the team championship title. Turkey now ranks second in the medal table with three gold and two silver medals.

The competition concludes on Saturday.
