Grok, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has temporarily disabled the translation of Hebrew-language content due to concerns about the tool amplifying violent expressions and inflammatory language.
In a post on X on Wednesday, TRT World quoted Grok as stating that automated translations of Hebrew had “often amplified inflammatory content,” such as Israeli-backed calls to violence.
According to the statement attributed to Grok, the decision to disable Hebrew translations is “data-driven” and aims to curb harm without resorting to blanket censorship, focusing on instances “where literal translations distorted context or violated policies most acutely.”
X has not yet confirmed or denied the reported suspension of Hebrew translation, and the platform has not issued an official comment on the matter.
The reported suspension of Hebrew translation comes at a time of ongoing scrutiny over content moderation practices on X, particularly concerning conflict-related discourse and the accuracy of automated translations.
Recent reports have revealed instances of Zionist infiltration within X, with several high-ranking Israeli military personnel identified working in influential roles related to content moderation and account suspensions.
Israel’s reliance on digital manipulation is no longer even covert. In a public statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged using social media as a strategic tool to reshape Israel's global image, particularly amidst mounting criticism of the genocidal war in the besieged Gaza Strip that started in October 2013.
Netanyahu also emphasized the importance of engaging with Elon Musk, the owner of X, possibly in an attempt to expand Israeli influence over online discourse and curtail the limited space still available for pro-Palestinian voices on the platform.
Activists caution that Israel's information warfare extends beyond the occupied territories, weaponizing digital platforms to launder its image, manipulate global perception, and destabilize sovereign nations that resist its fascist settler-colonial agenda.
Musk had in the past expressed support for Israel’s attempts to eradicate the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and visited the occupied territories shortly after Israel's war of genocide began.
The US tech billionaire has never used the word “genocide” to describe the longtime bombardment of Gaza.
Back in August, Grok, which has become widely embraced on the social media X as a way for users to fact-check or respond to other users’ arguments, was suspended reportedly over comments implicating the Israeli regime and the US in the genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza.
