'The torture is a fact!': Hundreds rally in Sao Paulo for Gaza peace, release of flotilla activists

Hundreds of demonstrators rallied in Sao Paulo to call for an end to Israeli army attacks in the Gaza Strip and the release of activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla with humanitarian aid.

Footage shows a crowd protesting in front of the Sao Paulo Museum of Art, holding Palestinian flags and signs reading: 'The world needs to stop Israel's genocidal acts', 'No more genocide in Palestine', and 'Palestine needs help'.

One of the demonstrators held a doll wrapped in bandages and covered in red ink simulating blood, referencing the thousands of children killed in Gaza.

"Unfortunately, it is nothing new that the State of Israel commits these atrocities, so through absurd rhetoric, they will deny it all the time, but the torture is a fact! It is a method of the genocidal state of Israel," he said.

Protesters expressed support for the Global Sumud Flotilla activists, who were intercepted by Israeli army forces while attempting to break the blockade of Gaza with humanitarian aid on October 1-3.

"We also have to demand that the unions break this paralysis and that we need an effective action plan for a nationwide general strike in solidarity with Palestine and in support of the flotilla," proclaimed a rally participant.

Among those detained are more than a dozen Brazilians, including a Workers' Party deputy linked to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and two members of the Frente Palestina organization, which coordinated the march.

"A colleague of mine, Bruno Gilga, is on the flotilla, now kidnapped along with other Brazilian comrades, and we are here not only in solidarity but also to pressure the Brazilian government to break relations with Israel so that no more Brazilian oil is sent to the Zionist tanks of Israel," shared a protester.

Pro-Palestine demonstrations were held across several countries this weekend, including in Europe and Latin America, amid US pressure on Hamas and Israel to accept a plan aimed at securing peace in Gaza.
