Gaza occupation plan
The United Nations Security Council holds an emergency meeting to discuss Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to occupy Gaza City. During the session, UN Assistant Secretary-General delivered a stark warning about the consequences of such an occupation. Miroslav Jenča stressed that the only solution to Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is a full and permanent ceasefire. He called on Israel to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law, urging immediate, safe, and large-scale aid deliveries to Palestinians trapped in the devastated strip. The next speaker, a representative from UN United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, described the suffering in Gaza as an unacceptable catastrophe. Ramesh Rajasingham echoed concerns over Netanyahu’s plan, warning of further devastation.
Genocide and starvation
The Israeli regime’s attacks on Gaza have killed at least 39 Palestinians since dawn, including 23 people who were seeking aid. Aid centers have been the primary target of Israeli attacks for months, resulting in over a thousand deaths. Meanwhile, at least five more people, including two children, starved to death in the past 24 hours alone. This raises the total number of deaths due to starvation to 217, a hundred of which are children. Since Israel began its war of genocide on Gaza in October 2023, it has killed at least 61,400 Palestinians.
Europe Ukraine support
European leaders have issued a joint statement, showing their support for Ukraine ahead of a planned meeting between the US and Russian presidents. The statement was issued by France, Italy, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and the European Commission on Saturday. This comes after US president Donald Trump announced he will be holding a meeting with Russian president, Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday, without including Ukraine. Trump also suggested that there will be some swapping of territories in order for Moscow and Kiev to reach an agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said any agreements without Kiev will amount to dead decisions.
