Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has denied an Israeli report that claimed the group quit Gaza ceasefire talks after Israel resumed genocidal strikes.

Israeli news outlet Ynet cited an official from a “mediator-country” claiming that Hamas has “cut off talks” following Israel’s renewed strikes.

Hamas on Friday dismissed the report, stressing that it continues to communicate with mediators in an effort to implement the ceasefire in Gaza.

The movement affirmed that “it remains at the heart of the negotiations, is following up responsibly and seriously with its mediating brothers, and is continuing to discuss the [US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve] Witkoff proposal and the various ideas on the table, with the goal of achieving a prisoner exchange deal that secures the release of captives, ends the war, and achieves withdrawal [of Israeli troops from Gaza],” it said in a statement on Friday.

Last week, Witkoff presented a plan that reportedly aims to extend the ceasefire into April, beyond Ramadan and Passover, in exchange for the release of additional captives.

Israel launched the campaign of genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023. It has killed nearly 50,000 Palestinians there so far.

In January, the Israeli regime was forced to agree to a ceasefire deal with Hamas given the regime’s failure to achieve any of its objectives, including the “elimination” of the Palestinian resistance movement or the release of captives.

The 42-day stage of the truce, which was marred by repeated Israeli violations, expired on March 1, but Israel is refraining from stepping into talks for the second stage of the agreement.

Moreover, the regime has launched strikes on Gaza since Tuesday, breaking the ceasefire and prisoner-captive exchange agreement that lasted nearly two months.
