Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei censures the Israeli regime’s new attacks targeting multiple locations in the Syrian capital Damascus and the southern part of the Arab country.
In a statement on Thursday, Baghaei said the international community and Muslim countries should take a "firm" stance in condemnation of Israel’s acts of aggression and end the regime’s unlawful acts.
He warned against the continuation of Israel’s expansionist and aggressive actions.
The comments come after Israeli warplanes conducted a series of airstrikes on military targets in southern Syria, including areas near Damascus and the Dera’a province on Tuesday.
The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that the Tel Aviv regime has repeatedly violated the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria, which is a "blatant breach" of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Israel’s occupation of parts of Syria’s territory and repeated violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are tantamount to the commission of an act of aggression, Baghaei said.
He urged the United Nations Security Council to immediately put an end to the Israeli regime’s aggression and its violation of international peace and security.
The aggression followed Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s call for the “demilitarization” of the region. Israeli military affairs minister Israel Katz confirmed the strikes, which targeted installations in Kiswah, south of Damascus, and other sites in Dera’a.
The strikes align with the regime's attempts for the “complete demilitarization” of southern Syrian provinces, including Quneitra, Dera’a, and Sweida.
Following the downfall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December last year by military factions led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, the Israeli military has been launching airstrikes against military installations, facilities, and arsenals belonging to Syria’s now-defunct army.
The latest airstrikes drew condemnation from HTS, who demanded the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces and warned of the consequences of continued military aggression.
