Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has urged France to pressure Israel to stop violating a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah and completely withdraw its forces from the southern areas of the country.

During a meeting with French Ambassador to Lebanon Herve Magro on Wednesday, Aoun reiterated that Israel must pull out its forces from the entire Lebanese territories.

He said Israel has to be pressured “to halt daily violations and to work toward the release of Lebanese prisoners within the specified time frame.”

A truce deal was brokered by the United States and France to end nearly 70 days of Israel's aggression against Lebanon in late November 2024.

Under the deal, the regime was given 60 days to withdraw its forces from the occupied towns and hand over control to the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.

Since Israel missed the deadline on January 26, a new deadline was set for February 18.

Since the ceasefire deal took effect, the regime's military launched near-daily strikes on areas in southern Lebanon and killed dozens of people, including women and children.
