Lebanon files complaint against Israel with UN Security Council
Lebanon has filed another complaint with the UN Security Council against Israel over its repeated violations of a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah.
The complaint was filed on Tuesday through the Lebanese permanent mission in New York in response to Israel’s violation of Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement reached in late November, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
It explained in detail the Israeli violations in southern Lebanon, including its ground and air assaults, and destruction of homes and residential neighborhoods.
The file also mentioned the regime’s abduction of Lebanese citizens and soldiers, and attacks on civilians returning to their border villages.
On January 26, Israeli forces opened fire on Lebanese people returning home, killing at least 15 people and wounding more than 80.
Lebanon has urged the UN Security Council and sponsors of the ceasefire to take "a firm and clear position" against Israel's violations and work for strengthening the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
The truce deal, brokered by the United States and France, ended nearly 70 days of Israel's aggression and gave the regime 60 days to withdraw forces from the occupied towns and hand over control to the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
Despite the ceasefire, the regime’s forces invaded dozens of new areas across southern Lebanon in the first 40 days of the deal.
According to reports, the military launched near-daily strikes on areas in southern Lebanon during that period.
