Trump's forced displacement plan for Gaza poses ‘serious threat’ to region: Yemen

Yemen's Ansarullah resistance movement says US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to forcibly expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Arab countries poses a threat to West Asia.

"The talk of displacing the Palestinian people to neighboring countries is a serious threat to the region and is rejected by Palestinians, Arabs, internationally, humanely," Ansarullah spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Salam said on Wednesday.

He also noted that Washington is acting outside the framework of international law and that its efforts to liquidate the Palestinian cause are doomed to fail as they did in the past.

On Saturday, Trump touted a plan to “clean out” the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to Jordan and Egypt either “temporarily or long-term.”

The remarks sparked widespread condemnations from Palestine, the UN and the Arab world as a potentially fatal blow to the so-called two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Two days later, Trump once again called for Palestinians to move to “safer” locations, citing Jordan's King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as likely partners to his scheme.

However, the Jordanian king stressed his country's "firm position on the need to keep the Palestinians on their land and to guarantee their legitimate rights, in accordance with the ... two-state solution," according to the royal palace.

Similarly, Sisi said Egypt will not participate in the displacement of Palestinians, which is an "act of injustice," emphasizing that the plan "can never be tolerated or allowed because of its impact on Egyptian national security."

He added that Cairo would work with Trump towards regional peace based on the two-state framework.

Hamas hails Egypt's opposition to Trump's plan

Additionally, on Wednesday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas appreciated Sisi’s firm opposition to any plan or action aimed at forcibly displacing the people of Gaza or transferring them to other locations under any pretexts.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem praised the Egyptian president for reaffirming his support for Palestine and opposing the repetition of the historical oppression against the nation.

Israel was forced to agree to a Gaza ceasefire after the regime failed to achieve its objectives in the besieged territory despite killing over 47,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children, during a 15-month-long genocidal war.

The truce took effect on January 19 in Gaza, where the Israeli offensive destroyed or damaged nearly 70 percent of all structures and displaced almost all of its 2.2 million residents.
