Kabul deadly explosion
Officials say at least five people have been killed in a bomb attack in the capital Kabul. The blast has also injured many people. A man reportedly blew himself up near the foreign ministry. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the blast that bears the hallmarks of the Daesh terror group. Overall, violence has significantly dropped since the Taliban's takeover of the country in 2021, but bomb attacks continue to target cities, including the capital Kabul. Many of the attacks have been claimed by Daesh.
US flights disruptions
Air travelers across the United States have faced delays due to an outage of a key flight information system. Thousands of flights, including domestic and international ones, were delayed on Wednesday. Hundreds of flights were also canceled. The Federal Aviation Administration now saying normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the country. The FAA is working to restore the system that warns pilots of hazards and changes to airport facilities. Airports have told passengers to check with their airlines for updates.
Brazil arrest warranrs
A Supreme Court judge in Brazil has ordered the arrest of two former senior officials in connection with the recent storming of key public buildings by supporters of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro. Judge Alexander de Moraes issued the arrest warrant for Anderson Torres who served as Bolsonaro's justice minister and lately served as security chief in the capital. The judge calls potentially criminal Torres’s failure to act as mobs overran Congress, the apex court and the presidential palace at the weekend. Reports say former military police chief Fabio Augusto has also been detained as part of a probe running under Moraes. Both officials were removed from their jobs after rioting and vandalism in the capital Brasilia. At least 1,500 people have been detained and are being questioned. Protests came days after Lula da Silva was sworn in as president following one of the most divisive elections in Brazil’s history.
