A senior economic and trade delegation from Germany is in the Iranian capital Tehran for talks with government officials and business executives.
The delegation led by head of German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) held talks on Sunday with officials of Iran’s largest petrochemical company PGPIC as well as with head of the ICCIMA, the largest institution representing private businesses in Iran.
BWA’s chairman of the board of directors Michael Schumann said during a meeting with ICCIMA’s chairman Gholamhossein Shafei that German businesses are looking to expand their partnerships with Iranian counterparts.
Schumann said BWA represents more than 1,300 companies and research institutes in Germany, adding that the body’s responsibility is to help German businesses engage in partnerships with companies around the world and to provide support for international companies willing to invest and work in Germany.
He told Shafei that the BWA will seek to facilitate the granting of visas to Iranian businesses for attending events and business meetings in Germany.
In a separate meeting with senior officials of the PGPIC, the second largest petrochemical company in the Middle East, Schumann said that the German delegation’s visit to Iran is mainly aimed at discussing investment and technology transfer issues in the Iranian petrochemical sector.
PGPIC’s CEO Abdolali Aliasgari said during the meeting that Iran expects German suppliers to observe their obligations regarding the delivery of machinery and equipment to the Iranian petchem plants based on deals signed before the imposition of American sanctions in 2018.
“Those companies should know that if they do not deliver the equipment, it will eventually harm them because we will indigenize the production of those machinery parts,” Aliasgari was quoted as saying by the IRIB News.
