Biden has unwavering commitment to Israel’s security: White House

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s “unwavering commitment” to the Israeli regime, says a spokesperson.

NSC spokesperson Emily Horne released a statement Sunday about a phone call between Sullivan and Israel's national security adviser Meir Ben Shabbat on Saturday.

“Mr. Sullivan reaffirmed President Biden’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and expressed appreciation for Ben Shabbat’s contributions to our bilateral partnership,” Horne said. “Mr. Sullivan confirmed the United States will closely consult with Israel on all matters of regional security.”

Iran was reportedly among the subjects on the agenda in the phone conversation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly sending Mossad chief Yossi Cohen to meet with senior US officials in the coming weeks.

Under former President Donald Trump, the US unilaterally withdrew from the internationally backed nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, triggering a rise in regional tensions.

A top Iranian diplomat said Saturday that the JCPOA is “the right format” for talks, adding that Tehran is “not interested in making any direct contact.”

“I don't see other alternatives,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi told Italian daily newspaper la Repubblica. “We have negotiated in good faith and implemented the JCPOA in good faith. It is now up to the new [US] administration to correct the mistakes of their predecessors. The US is the party that has abandoned the agreement: it is up to them to decide what to do.”
