Afghanistan’s capital Kabul is hosting the 6th Herat International Women's Film Festival. The festival is the first women’s film festival in the region bringing together each year a large number of filmmakers from around the world.
More than 3,000 films from 122 countries on issues related to women have been submitted to the 6th Herat International Women's Film Festival by male and female filmmakers.
As filmmakers and cinema stars in this festival say, the 6th Herat International Women's Film Festival provides the world with a better understanding of the cinema industry in Afghanistan. They also look to this event as a revolutionary step by Afghan film makers to boost the capacities of cinema in Afghanistan.
A line up of 73 films from 27 countries have been officially selected in two parts: Competition and Non-Competition . Four jury committees composed of filmmakers and women's rights activists from Afghanistan, Iran, India, Germany and Spain will award the winners with a statuette and a plaque of appreciation.
As the co-founders of the 6th Herat International Women's Film Festival say, the main goal of this festival is to focus on women related issues such as their political, social, cultural and legal rights in order to decrease the numerous challenges they face.
