The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beirut held a gathering to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the kidnapping of four Iranian diplomats in Lebanon.

It has become certain, as officials say, that the diplomats were abducted at a checkpoint for the Lebanese Forces militia, led by Samire Geagea.

The armed group abducted the unarmed diplomats despite their diplomatic immunity and took them to its main headquarters. They were never heard from again.

Arab and international figures attended the gathering to denounce Israeli crimes. The speeches in the ceremony also spoke of the necessity to strengthen the ties between Lebanon and Iran.

Samire Geagea himself, whose militia has become a political party, said in an interview that the diplomats were killed by his armed men and buried in an unknown location. However, another witness said they were handed to the Israeli occupation forces.

Members of the Lebanese parliament consider marking the kidnapping of the Iranian nationals an opportunity to recall Israel’s aggressive policies, which target the security of the entire region.
