US-Israeli aggression defeated

The leader of the Islamic Revolution says the main issue is not Iran’s nuclear program but the Islamic Republic’s resistance against an unjust world order and the dominance of the hegemonic powers. In a message to the annual meeting of the Union of Islamic Student Associations in Europe, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stressed that the military invasion of the US and Israel against Iran in June was defeated by the initiative, courage, and sacrifices of the Iranian youth. He says this proved that the Iranian nation can stand firm against oppressive powers, through relying on its own capabilities, and deliver the message of Islamic values to the world. Ayatollah Khamenei added that the deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Iranian scientists, commanders, and ordinary citizens has not and will not stop the determined youth of Iran from pursuing their righteous path.

Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire following weeks of deadly cross-border violence between the two Southeast Asian neighbors. According to a joint statement released by the defence ministries of both countries, the ceasefire will take effect at 12 noon local time on Saturday. They have also agreed to freeze troop movements and allow civilians living in border areas to return home as soon as possible. The ceasefire follows sustained diplomatic efforts by ASEAN countries, including China and the United States. A previous US-brokered truce collapsed in July. The long-standing border dispute was reignited in early December, killing at least 47 people and displacing more than one million civilians on both sides of the border.

US-Venezuela tensions

The Venezuelan President accuses Washington of fabricating a "virtual reality to steal his country’s natural resources." Maduro has said if the US leaders choose dialogue based on respect, Venezuela will always have a president willing to extend a hand in pursuit of peace, cooperation, and prosperity. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced a blockade on sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. The US has also deployed thousands of troops to the Caribbean, backed by an aircraft carrier, warships, and fighter jets. In recent days, Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drones and MC-130J Commando II aircraft have arrived in Puerto Rico. The US military has also been carrying out strikes against alleged drug trafficking vessels in the region. Caracas has denounced the US deployment as a rehearsal for an operation to oust the country’s legitimate government.
