Among all the US Democratic presidential candidates only Representative Tulsi Gabbard “takes an anti-imperialism stance but she’s been sidelined by the media for being pro-peace,” according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.
Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on a report where US intelligence officials have claimed that Russia is interfering in the 2020 presidential campaign by trying to boost President Donald Trump’s reelection.
The Reuters news agency reported on Thursday that the officials had informed US lawmakers of the matter last week and also claimed that Moscow was attempting to cast doubt on the integrity of the vote too.
Evidence of Russian interference was weak in 2016; what evidence in 2020?
Hoenig said, “The US has a wealth of simple minded politicians, politicians who are transparent for their idiocies, their biases and their lack of trustworthiness.”
“Of course Donald Trump might be viewed as being on the top of that list but it goes far beyond him, and reaches into both parties, equally. The latest story that Russia is again trying to interfere with our elections plays into everyone’s particular narrative. For the Democrats, it’s more proof that Hillary lost in 2016. Not that that is proof of it at all but they’ll play it that way,” he added.
“The questions to ask challenge the very idea of such interference. Are the Russians really trying to swing the election? Was this just a matter of what they favor or are they doing anything about it? Is there any evidence, considering that so much of the ‘evidence’ for 2016 was more assessments rather than factually based but played off as real? What is Putin’s game plan?” he asked.
“What we do know is that while the US plays checkers Russia plays chess. US political leadership is often two dimensional in its thinking; good vs bad, us vs them, black vs white, democracy vs totalitarianism, and so on. The Russians, and perhaps Putin in particular, sees far more levels of complexities and knows how to act on it. And for this, we really don’t know what Putin’s game is regarding our elections in 2020,” he said.
“Russia most likely did interfere in the 2016 election but in ways that were negligible regarding the results. Russia did want Trump to win as he was promoting a form of co-existence, as best as Trump could understand it, while Hillary Clinton was salivating for WW3 with Russia. Today, Trump has been harsh of Russian individuals but still does not have an itchy trigger finger regarding them,” he noted.
“The Democrats, including Sanders, remain very Russophobic and value the role of NATO and its military in extending or maintaining the US empire and threats to the Russian homeland. It was Obama, the Democrat, who after all helped stage a coup with neo-Nazi support in Ukraine right on Russia’s border. Only Tulsi Gabbard takes an anti-imperialism stance but she’s been sidelined by the media for being pro-peace,” the analyst said.
“The one person who benefits most from this revelation is Rachel Maddow of MSNBC. This doesn’t vindicate her for her anti-Russia hysteria the last three years but gives her the mic and ratings for another year when her reputation took a serious hit,” he concluded.
