US now says Israeli settlements are legal
Its been described as another pro-Israel move by the administration of US President Donald Trump. On Monday Secretary of State Mike Pomepo announced a US policy shift toward Israels illegal settlements on Palestinian territories.
According to the new policy, the settlements are no longer illegal. After carefully studying all sides of the legal debate, the United States has concluded that the establishment of Israeli civilian settlements in the West Bank is not, per se, inconsistent with international law."
Pompeo said that the United States was not necessarily considering the settlements legal either but instead would defer to the judgment of Israeli courts.
