Iran wins two gold medals at Karate 1 - Premier League Paris 2018

Iranian karate practitioners Zabihollah Poursheib and Sajjad Ganjzadeh have exhibited great punching, knee strikes as well as open-hand techniques at the Karate 1 - Premier League Paris 2018, and scooped two precious gold medals in the prestigious international tournament.

On Sunday, Poursheib featured in the men’s 84-kilogram kumite competitions, and triumphed over his Egyptian rival Ahmed Elmasry in the final contest, and took the gold.

Both sportsmen were level on two points, when Elmasry committed a serious violation and the referee imposed immediate disqualification (hansoku).

In the men’s over 84-kilogram kumite division, Sajjad Ganjzadeh emerged victorious 3-1 in his battle with Mehdi Filali from France, and gave the Islamic Republic of Iran a haul of two gold medals.

Earlier in the day, the Iran men's national kata team, comprised of Abolfazl Shahrjerdi, Milad Delikhoun and Ali Zand, went on tatami, and snatched the bronze medal.

Travat Khaksar, Hamoon Derafshipour, Bahman Asgari-Ghoncheh and Saleh Abazari could also pocket a bronze each in the female kumite minus 55-kilogramg, male kumite minus 67-kilogram, male kumite minus 75-kilogram and male kumite over 84-kilogram weight sections.

The Karate 1 - Premier League Paris 2018 kicked off in France on January 26, and concluded on January 28, 2018.

The tournament attracted dozens of male and female karate practitioners from various world countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chinese Taipei, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Macedonia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine.
