The Iran men’s national volleyball team has pummeled South Korea to achieve its first victory at the Asian section of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship qualification.
On Friday, the Iranian volleyball squad blanked South Korea 3-0 (25-10, 27-25 and 25-18) in their opening Pool A match of the competitions at Hossein Rezazadeh Hall in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardabil.
“The first set was apparently an easy one, but I believe South Korea did not put in a convincing performance during the time frame. We could finally see their actual performance from the onset of the second set. Nevertheless, we maintained our concentration and could clinch the victory,” Iran head coach Igor Kolaković said after the match.
He added, “We hope to keep our composure for the next fixtures and qualify for the World Championship.”
The Iran men’s national volleyball team is scheduled to play China in its second match on Saturday.
The Asian section of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship qualification acts as qualifiers for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, which is to be held in Italy and Bulgaria.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is in Pool A with China, Kazakhstan, Qatar and South Korea.
Australia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, New Zealand and Thailand were in Pool B. Japan and Australia have already booked their place in the the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship as the top two finishers of the pool.
