Dozens of people have lost their lives after Daesh Takfiri terrorists launched a fresh offensive on the eastern Syrian city of Dayr al-Zawr. This is while the all-Syria ceasefire, brokered by Russia and Turkey, is holding across the country.
A former US Senate foreign policy analyst believes the United States must pursue a more “consistent” and “reasonable” policy on Syria, adding that it should pressure its regional allies to stop supporting Daesh Takfiri terrorists.
“Let’s be honest. Our so-called allies Saudi Arabia, Qatar and in the past Turkey have been the prime sponsors of these terrorist organizations and the United States has at least turned a blind eye if not worse. I hope that will change,” James Jatras told Press TV in an interview on Saturday.
He also predicted that such hostilities will continue for the time being in Dayr al-Zawr because Daesh and al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups are not part of the ceasefire agreement which has come into effect in Syria.
Jatras further noted this messy situation in Syria is a “very early litmus test” for US President-elect Donald Trump, arguing that he should come to an agreement with the Russians for targeting the terrorist groups in Syria, particularly Daesh.
“Donald Trump has made two things the pillars of his foreign policy. One is he wants to improve ties with Russia and he wants to crush Daesh. If he backs off of those, he loses total credibility with everybody including all the people who supported him,” he said in conclusion.
