South Korean president backs THAAD deployment

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement says an end to the country’s conflict hinges on Saudi Arabia’s cessation of its devastating war. The movement’s spokesman Mohammad Abdulsalam has emphasized the inclusion of all political parties in the Arab nation’s future.
US police have released footage showing officers fatally shooting an unarmed man in the city of Fresno, California. In the video, the officers shoot 19-year-old Dylan Noble four times. The cops believed Noble was reaching for a weapon, but it later turned out he was holding a plastic box.
Hundreds of Americans of Middle Eastern origin have gathered outside Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Washington DC to protest what they call the kingdom’s support for terrorism. The protesters then rallied to the White House, holding banners and chanting slogans against Riyadh’s propagation of Wahhabism.
The Afghan government says it has no plans to resume peace talks with the Taliban. A spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani says the former quartet comprised of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and the United States will not meet again, citing failures of the previous rounds as the reason.
The UK’s new Prime Minister Theresa May says her government needs some time before it can begin talks with EU members on leaving the bloc. May has however promised to do the proceedings to fulfill the will of the Britons. She’s hopeful Brexit could happen in a constructive and positive spirit.
Russia’s permanent representative to NATO has slammed the military alliance’s plans to increase its presence in Baltic States. Alexander Grushko says NATO is trying to turn Eastern Europe into a military zone. NATO says its planned deployment in Eastern Europe is to deter potential threats from Russia.
South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye fully supports an agreement with the US to deploy the American missile system known as THAAD in her country. Park says the anti-missile system will be deployed in South Korea’s southeast. The move comes amid strong opposition at home and abroad, with North Korea threatening to retaliate.
The European Commission has called on EU members to restructure the bloc’s asylum system which it believes does not function properly. The EU’s Migration Commissioner says member states would not come up with a successful strategy unless they work together.
