Female Iranian archer nominated IPC’s Athlete of Month

Female Iranian Paralympic archer Zahra Ne'mati

Female Iranian female Paralympic archer Zahra Ne'mati has been shortlisted for the title of the Allianz Athlete of the Month for November 2015, following her dazzling display of skills and prowess at the recently concluded 2015 World Archery Asian Para Championships in Thailand.

The 30-year-old Iranian sportswoman has so far garnered an overwhelming 58.54 percent of the votes.

German para-alpine skier Anna-Lena Forster, Ukrainian judoka Inna Cherniak, Ukrainian powerlifter Mariana Shevchuk and American Paralympian athlete Tatyana McFadden have already received 19.41, 8.23, 3.96 and 2.41 percent of the votes respectively.

On November 14, Ne’mati vied at the individual recurve competitions in Bangkok, Thailand, and picked a gold medal for the Islamic Republic with a total score of 647 points. She later dedicated her medal to her husband Roham Shahabi.

Chinese athlete Lin Dandan notched up 617 points to snatch the silver. The bronze went to Ye Jinyan, also a representative from China, who managed to rack up 598.

The 2015 World Archery Asian Para Championships started in Thailand on November 10, and finished on November 19.

The tournament brought together dozens of male and female Paralympic archers from 15 Asian countries, including China, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

On November 8, Ne’mati earned a slot at the 2016 Olympic Games by taking the silver medal in the women’s individual contests of the Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok.

“I do my best to win honors in Olympic and Paralympic Games simultaneously. I am so happy to get this, since I motivate all archers in my country,” she said at the time.

The Asian Archery Championships began in Thailand on November 1 and wrapped up on November 9.
