Iranian athletes book tickets for 2016 Summer Paralympic Games

Iranian physically-challenged sportsmen have impressed the audience at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Qatar, and earned two spots in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

On Thursday, Iran’s Paralympian athlete Ali Mohammadyari competed the in the category F56 discus throw competition at the multi-purpose Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium, also known as Qatar SC Stadium, in the Qatari capital city of Doha, the Islamic Republic of Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled reported.

He had a personal best of 44.97 meters to stand in the second place behind a representative from Cuba, and win the ticket for next year’s sporting event.

Earlier in the day, Iranian shot putter Sajjad Mohammadian managed to claim a quota place for Rio Paralympics with a winning throw of 14.54 meters.

He finished in the second place behind a contestant from Britain.

The 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships opened in Doha, Qatar, on October 21, and will conclude on October 31.

The tournament has brought together around 1,300 athletes from 90 countries, and is underway in the 15,000-seater Suhaim Bin Hamam Stadium.

It is one of the last major competitions ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A total of 19 athletes are representing the Islamic Republic of Iran at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships.

Mohsen Kaedi is among the standouts on the roster, who is looking to defend his world title in the men’s javelin F33/34, and improve upon his bronze medal in the shot put F34 from the 2013 World Championships in Lyon, France.
