Pakistan airstrikes kill over 40 militants in North Waziristan

Airstrikes by Pakistan’s military have left more than 40 suspected militants dead in the North Waziristan tribal region.

Pakistan’s military says 28 militants were killed in Gharlamai and 15 others died in Shawal. Pakistan has been carrying out an operation to destroy militant hideouts in tribal areas near the Afghan border. Islamabad has also announced plans to intensify attacks against militant strongholds and across the country to battle home-grown militants and militants crossing into the country from Afghanistan. According to estimations, more than 3,000 militants have been killed since the offensive was launched in tribal areas in June last year.
