Police in Singapore have shot and killed a man and arrested two others near a hotel hosting an important international security summit.

Officials said a car crashed into police barricades at a security checkpoint in front of the Shangri-La Hotel, where dozens of military chiefs from across the world have gathered for the Shangri-La Dialogue.

Police said they opened fire on the three people in the vehicle “to stop further danger.”

Security has been tight around the hotel, where defense ministers and military commanders from across the globe, including US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of the general staff department in the People’s Liberation Army of China, have come together to discuss regional security issues.

Security sources have not confirmed yet whether the incident was a terror attack. However, police noted that “substances believed to be drugs were found on one of the persons detained.”
