Iranian athletes have thrashed Indonesia 18-6 in their second Group B match at the 5th edition of the FINA World Men’s Water Polo Development Trophy held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
The Iranians had crushed Guatemala 20-2 on Sunday in their tournament opener but the Tuesday match was neck and neck at the beginning.
However, Siroos Taherian’s men found their desired form again after playing rather sluggishly in the early stages and ruled the match from then onwards to beat Indonesia with a 12-goal advantage at the Shahid Shiroudi Stadium.
In another Group B match, Tunisia beat Guatemala 13-4. The North Africans will face hosts Iran.
Teams from 10 countries participate within two groups in the six-day event, which is mainly aimed at promoting the sport in countries where it has less popularity.
Before the 2015 edition of the competitions in Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia had hosted the event.
