Plight of Palestinian abductees
An international human rights organization has released a new report, describing the extent of systematic torture and atrocities endured by Palestinians in Israeli prisons as shocking. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s report came after hundreds of Palestinian abductees were released in the seventh batch of the exchange deal between Israel and Hamas. It said Palestinians are exposed to dire health conditions in the regime’s jails. The monitor noted that Israel continues to use torture as a weapon to intimidate Palestinian abductees and break their will. Euro-Med said it has documented serious injuries among Palestinian inmates, including amputations and severe injuries resulting from torture. The monitor said Palestinian abductees are held with no charges, and subjected to brutal beatings, abuse, and continuous threats right up to the last moments before their release. It emphasized that the brutal torture and deliberate medical neglect faced by Palestinians have reached shocking levels that surpass all moral and legal limits. The monitor called for urgent international action to stop Israel’s crimes against Palestinian abductees and hold perpetrators to account.
Reaction to Israeli crimes
The US-Israeli genocide in Gaza continues to spark global outrage over the regime’s international law violations. Now, South Africa, Colombia, and Malaysia have announced coordinated legal, economic, and diplomatic measures to hold Israel accountable amid the absence of a proper international response to its crimes. In a joint statement, the leaders of three countries condemned Israel’s blatant defiance of rulings by the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court. They affirmed their commitment to enforcing the ICC’s arrest warrants against Israeli officials. The three countries added that they will ban ships carrying military supplies to Israel from using their ports, and halt all arms transfers that facilitate the regime's crimes. They also denounced US President Donald Trump’s plans for forceful displacement of Gazans, calling it a grave violation of international law. They rapped powerful countries’ complicity in Israeli crimes by providing the regime with diplomatic cover and military equipment. The three leaders said the continuation of Israel’s crimes against Palestinians proves the total failure of the existing international system.
Trump rights violations
A large group of UN experts has warned that measures taken by the new US administration undermine human rights and fundamental freedoms at home and abroad. The group said President Donald Trump’s plan to forcibly expel Palestinians from Gaza and take over the territory, and his threats against the territorial integrity of UN member states, are blatantly illegal acts under international law. They cited Trump's decisions to withdraw from the Paris climate change accords, the World Health Organization, and the UN Human Rights Council. The experts also voiced alarm over the US administration’s efforts to harm the international human rights and humanitarian systems, and undermine international institutions. The group’s statement was signed by 32 special rapporteurs, seven other experts, and members of six working groups.
