Activist files torture complaint in Switzerland against Bahrain attorney general
A British-Bahraini human rights activist has asked Switzerland to probe the Persian Gulf kingdom’s attorney general for torture.
Jaafar al-Hasabi says he was tortured by the Bahraini regime in 2010. He filed a criminal complaint in Zurich, where Bahrain’s Attorney General Ali al-Buainain attended the International Association of Prosecutors. According to rights groups, Manama subjected Hasabi to electric shocks, beatings, and other forms of torture. The rights groups called on Switzerland to summon Buainain for questioning. The Bahraini regime has cracked down on pro-democracy voices. It has detained thousands of people since an uprising began in 2011.
