Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, announces he will not be running for president in the June 18 election, officially turning down a major appeal by the Reformist camp and potentially reshaping the race.

Iran’s Constitutional Council updates the requirements for individuals planning to register as candidates in presidential elections, in an effort to filter out large numbers of people who nominate with very basic or no qualifications.
