A Palestinian woman jailed by the Israeli regime has documented an escalation in assaults on female Palestinians inside Israeli prisons.
Shahd Muhammad Adi’s accounts of mistreatment and harassment inside Israeli jails were cited in a Saturday report by the Palestine Information Center.
Adi’s testimony was given to lawyer Hasan Abbadi, the report said, adding that the 23-year-old and her fellow inmates have been subject to numerous assaults and violations by Israeli prison guards since late March when she was arrested.
The testimony points to harsh mistreatments, including Israeli guards forcing female Palestinian prisoners to take off their hijab in very cold weather, storming of prison cells when the prisoners were praying, blindfolding, physical abuse, and other assaults.
The prisoner, a graduate of nursing from the Palestinian town of Beit Ummar, said in her testimony that the “most violent” assault by Israeli prison guards had happened on May 13 when female prisoners were attacked in their cells while they were praying at night.
The guards used stun grenades and police dogs, while forcing the prisoners to lie down on the ground as they brandished their weapons and voiced verbal assaults, said Adi.
She said that Israeli prison guards have repeatedly released dogs inside cells in recent months during night raids just to spread terror inside prisons.
Israeli regime prison authorities have also restricted the access of female prisoners to medical care and clothing while reducing the quality and quantity of the food given to inmates, according to the Palestinian woman.
Abdi warned that the continued assaults and restrictions in Israeli prisons could deteriorate health conditions for the female prisoners and cause the spread of allergies and skin diseases.
