Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has said the United States is fabricating a "fraudulent case" as a pretext for a Cuba invasion.
Rodriguez dismissed a report run by Axios, claiming Cuba had acquired military-grade drones to stage attacks on US targets.
He said the leaked government documents used in the Axios report are part of a clandestine operation conducted by US governmental departments or agencies under Washington's supervision.
“Certain media outlets are playing along, spreading slanderous claims and publishing insinuations leaked by the US government,” said the Foreign Minister.
Rodriguez described the report as an attempt to concoct a “fraudulent case to justify the ruthless economic war against the Cuban people and, eventually, military aggression.”
The top Cuban diplomat insisted that Cuba “neither threatens nor desires war.”
The administration of US President Donald Trump imposed harsh sanctions and restrictions on the Caribbean island in February, plunging the island-state into an energy crisis.
Trump has suggested that Cuba may become the next target of Washington's perpetual wars.
In the 60s, Cuba allegedly acquired nuclear missiles for attacking the United States, resulting in a US blockade of the island that continues to this day.
The US embargo was loosened during the improved relations from 2015 to 2017, but was tightened once again thereafter.
