Iran says enemy’s claim of talks and ceasefire pointless while aggression continues

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei

The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the country does not accept the enemy’s claims of negotiations and ceasefire while they press ahead with their military aggression against the Islamic Republic, which has entered its 13th day.

“What is currently important to us is to show the enemy that it cannot launch a war when it wants and announce a ceasefire when it likes,” Esmaeil Baghaei said in an interview on Thursday.

“The Iranian Armed Forces are determined to give an unforgettable lesson to the enemy,” he added.

He noted that the United States and the Israeli regime launched the military aggression against Iran for the second time in less than a year in the midst of Tehran’s indirect nuclear talks with Washington.

Iran has been pursuing a diplomatic course of negotiations with the US with goodwill and seriousness although it was aware of Washington’s true intentions and the Israeli regime’s evil acts and measures and its sway over the US decision-making process, the spokesman said.

Iran, however, was “duty-bound” to continue this process, he emphasized.

If Iran had refused to negotiate with the US, regional countries and the international community would have probably claimed that the talks could led to an agreement and prevention of a war, Baghaei explained.

He reiterated that all Iranians are determined to defend the country’s integrity and “under the current circumstances, nothing should divert us from focusing on defense.”

The US and the Israeli regime launched a joint military aggression on Iran on February 28 some eight months after they attacked the country in June last year.

Both attacks came as Iran and the US were in the midst of indirect nuclear talks.
