Iran-US indirect talks

Iran’s top diplomat says he has traveled to Geneva with real ideas to achieve a fair and equitable nuclear deal with the United States as the two countries are set to hold the second round of indirect talks in the Swiss city. However, Abbas Araghchi underlined that Tehran will not yield to threats in the negotiations. He made the remarks in a post on his X account. The Iranian foreign minister also said he is scheduled to meet the chief of the UN nuclear agency for what he called a deep technical discussion. The meeting is organized following repeated requests by the agency’s chief. Araghchi will also hold talks with Oman’s foreign minister, whose country is mediating the negotiations. The second round of indirect talks will be held in Oman’s Embassy in Geneva on Tuesday. Tehran and Washington have described as positive the first round of the negotiations, which were held in Oman’s capital on February 6.

Slamming US Cuba sanctions

Iran’s foreign ministry has condemned the United States’ illegal and inhumane measures against the people of Cuba, as Washington tries to choke off the Caribbean country’s access to oil. The ministry’s spokesman expressed solidarity with the people and government of Cuba against Washington’s stepped-up economic embargo and pressure against the country. Esmaeil Baghaei slammed Washington’s meddling in Cuba’s internal affairs and violation of its sovereignty through the sanctions. He said this is a blatant violation of Cubans’ basic human rights and international law and amounts to crimes against humanity. The spokesman called for the US to be held to account. Cuba faces a massive fuel crisis after losing access to Venezuelan oil following the US abduction of the country’s president. Mexico, a second supplier, has also stopped exports to Cuba under US pressure.

Israel Gaza truce violations

More Palestinians are killed in Gaza as the Israeli military pushes ahead with its deadly strikes against civilians in the besieged territory in violation of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. Over the past 24 hours, three civilians were killed by Israeli artillery shelling in northern Gaza, including Beit Lahia. Another person was killed near the so-called yellow line, where Israeli forces are expanding their military operations. A day earlier over a dozen Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across the territory. Explosions and demolition activities have been reported in al-Zaytoun, Jabalia, Beit Lahia and near al-Tufah, as many residents remain in tents or damaged homes. The Rafah crossing in the south remains largely restricted for those returning from Egypt. Since the ceasefire was established in October, more than 600 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,600 injured.
