Iran on US Venezuela threats
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says Washington’s deployment of a naval fleet to Venezuela’s shores is a dangerous precedent that threatens global peace and security. In a phone call with his Venezuelan counterpart, Pezeshkian voiced Iran’s support for Venezuela’s independence, security, and stability. He stressed that Tehran is closely monitoring developments in the Caribbean and US maneuvers in the region, declaring full solidarity with Venezuela’s government and people. Pezeshkian added that Venezuela will overcome current challenges through unity and cohesion. Venezuela’s president, for his part, described the US actions as provocative, unnecessary, and in violation of the United Nations Charter. He said Washington’s false claims against the Venezuelan people have been met with global opposition including from Americans.
Israel Gaza, West Bank attacks
Israeli forces detain dozens of Palestinians in fresh large-scale raids across the occupied West Bank. Over 50 Palestinians have been detained in Nablus, Jenin, and several other cities. In Al-Quds, roughly 20 young men were detained, interrogated, and beaten before release. Meanwhile, dozens of Israeli settlers, protected by occupation forces, stormed Alkhalil. They sealed the area and main roads, restricting residents' movement to secure their provocative march, where they raised Israeli flags and chanted racist slogans. Since October 2023, the occupied West Bank has been witnessing intensified Israeli raids and settler attacks.
FIFA peace prize controversy
The FIFA chief is facing a complaint over a peace prize awarded by him to the US President during the World Cup draw in Washington. The complaint was filed with FIFA’s ethics committee by International human rights group, FairSquare. The UK based advocacy group accused Gianni Infantino of violating FIFA’s duty of neutrality. It argued that the organization’s behavior goes against the common interests of the global football community. FairSquare warned that if Infantino acted unilaterally and without statutory authority, his support for Donald Trump's political agenda should be seen as an egregious abuse of power. Similarly, a New York based rights group condemned FIFA’s decision, saying there’s NO sign of peace and unity in the Trump administration’s human rights record.
