An Israeli airstrike on a residential area in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has sparked widespread outrage, with activists, journalists, and officials denouncing the assault as US-backed terrorism.

The strike on residential apartments in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh on Sunday killed at least five people and wounded 28 others.

Social media users were quick to voice their anger.

Award-winning journalist Hala Jaber described the attack as “state terrorism, plain and unvarnished.”

She said that “the United States was not a bystander. It was involved,” adding that Washington and Tel Aviv had delivered a clear message: “Accept American demands. Move against Hezbollah. Facilitate disarmament. Or Israel will keep striking Lebanese territory, with full US cover.”

Activist Ibrahim Majed also highlighted US complicity, citing a report from Axios in which an American official acknowledged that Washington “has known for days that Israel was planning to escalate in Lebanon.”

“The US knew, approved, armed, and shielded Israel as it attacked Lebanon and violated the ceasefire,” Majed said. “Every strike and threat comes with Washington’s full support.”

Commentator Rania Khalek pointed to the role of the Trump administration in enabling Israeli aggression.

Trump, she wrote, “does not need to be informed to be complicit in Israel’s ongoing murder spree across the region,” noting that it is US weapons and diplomatic cover that “allow this insanity to continue.”

Journalist Hussein underscored that Israel’s attacks on Lebanese soil only reinforce the country’s right to resist foreign aggression.

He said Hezbollah represents a legitimate response to such attacks and that the Lebanese “people will not surrender to US and Israeli criminals.”

“Resistance becomes a responsibility for the owners of the land,” he added.

Mohamad Safa, Lebanon’s representative to the UN Economic and Social Council, emphasized the legal and humanitarian implications of the strike.

He condemned the attack as “another war crime” that carries “absolutely no consequences” for Israel.

“The International Criminal Court remains silent,” he said.

Activist Ashok Kumar defended Lebanon’s right to self-defense, saying, “I think we can all agree: the Lebanese people have a right to defend themselves.”

Another social media user wrote, “The Zionist regime is desperate to escalate its attacks on Lebanon. With full US support, of course. No confusion here: Israel commits the crimes. The blood of the Lebanese is on both their hands,” she added, referring to Israel and the United States.”

Israel's Sunday strike in Beirut has reignited the global debate over the US-Israel partnership and its role in sustaining violence in Lebanon, as well as Washington’s complicity in Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

The United States has long provided Israel with extensive military, financial, and diplomatic support — including advanced weaponry, intelligence sharing, and political protection at the United Nations. According to analysts, Washington’s backing enables Israel to carry out airstrikes and broader military campaigns in the region with little accountability.
