The Canadian Defense Minister has said he cannot confirm or deny whether Canada took part in an Israeli conference focused on "lessons learned" from the war on Gaza.

Asked whether Canada joined the Israeli regime’s “International Seminar for Lessons Learned from the War on Gaza” during the opening of the Halifax International Security Forum on Saturday, David McGuinty declined to respond directly, even though Israeli authorities had already confirmed Canada’s attendance.

“Canada is monitoring and participating in discussion in what might happen when the ceasefire might transition into a formal end to the war. This is as far as I can share in terms of information,” McGuinty said.

The regime’s military announced on Sunday that it was hosting a weeklong event on “the two-year war against Hamas in Gaza.”

“The seminar is being attended by commanders and officers from various armies around the world, who came to learn from the [Israeli military’s] experience over the past two years,” the statement said.

According to the Israeli military, the countries that attended the event included Canada, the US, the UK, Germany, Finland, India, Greece, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Estonia, Japan, Morocco, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia.

“The purpose of the seminar is to strengthen co-operation, enhance familiarity with diverse operational approaches, exchange professional knowledge and experience between the participating militaries, and reinforce understanding of the [Israeli military] activity,” the statement read.

Participants observed the regime’s use of AI systems, robotics, cyberwarfare, and coordinated strikes directed at Gaza’s population during the genocidal war, over which more than 69,500 Palestinians were killed and over 179,000 were wounded.

They also witnessed the extensive destruction inflicted on the Strip, including obliterated communities from the Gaza border.

The Halifax International Security Forum (HISF), created by Canada’s Department of National Defense (DND) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in 2009, remains an annual gathering for Western officials to address the security challenges facing their governments.
