Iranian para powerlifter Rouhallah Rostami secured the gold medal in the men’s heavyweight event on Friday at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, extending his record as one of the sport’s most decorated athletes.

Rostami topped the podium after lifting 235kg, with successful attempts at 225kg, 230kg and 235kg, finishing with a total score of 151.297.

Iraq’s Rasool Mohsin won silver with a best lift of 227kg, while Uzbekistan’s Bekzod Jamilov claimed bronze at 219kg.

The competition took place at Boulevard SEF Arena, where Rostami led the field from the opening attempts.

Rostami, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist, is widely regarded as one of Iran’s strongest para athletes. He has also won multiple world championship titles and set several world records during his career.

The 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, which wraps up tonight, brought together over 3,000 athletes from 57 nations competing across 25 sports.

Overseen by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), the games bring together athletes from more than 50 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The event was created to strengthen sporting cooperation among Muslim-majority nations and features Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.
