Iran strongly warns the US and its European allies against their pending push to compel the UN nuclear watchdog to adopt yet another politically motivated resolution against Tehran, calling the effort a self-serving attempt to instrumentalize the agency for their own ends.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Wednesday.
Later this week, the United States, the UK, France, and Germany are preparing to present the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors with a resolution that reportedly seeks to fault the Islamic Republic’s cooperation with the agency.
Tehran suspended the cooperation in the aftermath of an illegal and unprovoked war by the Israeli regime and the US in June that had used an earlier such resolution as an excuse.
The country then conditioned renewed cooperation on the agency’s condemning the aggression and ensuring the security of the Iranian nuclear installations, while underlining that the conditions created by the war had rendered it impossible for the cooperation to continue as before.
The two sides reached an agreement in Cairo on September 9 aimed at resumption of the cooperation. Also on Wednesday, the agency commended the level of the cooperation, confirming that inspectors had resumed work at facilities unaffected by the military attacks.

Araghchi called the Western allies’ drive irresponsible, provocative, and unjustifiable.
He said the campaign had been designed as part of the political approach pursued by them to trigger restoration of the UN Security Council’s sanctions against Iran in late September.
According to the top diplomat, such behavior further undermines the agency’s professional and technical credibility.
He underscored the need to prevent certain countries from exploiting international institutions to exert pressure on developing nations.
Araghchi and Vieira, meanwhile, addressed the status of the bilateral relations and international developments.
They underlined the importance of expanding ties and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within international organizations.
