No to disarmament

The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, says disarmament was not part of the November 2024 ceasefire deal with Israel and cannot be accepted or imposed. In a letter to Lebanese president, prime minster and parliament speaker, the group said it will not surrender to the regime’s "blackmailing and extortion". The group said the enemy is violating the ceasefire daily and has now resorted to threatening Lebanon by adding new conditions to the deal. Hezbollah said the issue of the monopoly of arms should only be discussed within a national framework and not in response to foreign demands. It said the enemy aims to strip Lebanon of any ability to counter Israel’s threats and is seeking to force it into submission.

Censoring Israeli crimes

The social media platform, YouTube, has removed over 700 videos documenting Israeli human rights violations in Palestinian territories. The move includes content from three key Palestinian human rights organizations, namely al-Haq, al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights. The videos covered topics such as the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, Israeli home demolitions, and testimonies from survivors. YouTube attributed the deletions to US sanctions targeting entities linked to the International Criminal Court investigation into Israeli war crimes. However, the move has sparked outrage among human rights advocates, who argue that it erodes accountability and shields perpetrators. Al-Haq says YouTube’s actions represent a serious failure of principle, while PCHR criticized the decision as unjustified censorship.

US government shutdown

The longest government shutdown in US history continues as differences remain between Democrats and Republicans on a funding bill. The 37-day lapse in funding that began on October 1 has already dealt a significant blow to the world’s largest economy and is now forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
