Israel Gaza genocide violations
Hamas has strongly condemned Israel’s latest massacre of scores of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, under the pretext of killing a single Israeli soldier. The group said nothing can justify the killing of innocent women and children. Hamas spokesman, Hazem Qassem, said Israel’s justification for the massacre of civilians in Gaza reflects the regime’s deep-seated and abhorrent racism as well as moral depravity in justifying murder. He said it is unacceptable to portray the killing of over a hundred Palestinians, including women and children, as a response to the death of a single soldier. Qassem also criticized a statement by a US official describing the Israeli attack as “limited.” He said killing 46 children and 20 women in one night constitutes a full-fledged crime. He added that Israel’s actions show a complete lack of genuine commitment to ending the war on Gaza or honoring an internationally brokered agreement.
UN Gaza genocide probe
Israeli forces have committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide in Gaza since October 2023, and its top officials have “incited the commission of genocide.” This, according to the UN independent Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which corroborated its earlier report that was released in August. Presenting the report to the UN General Assembly, the commission’s chair, Navi Pillay, said the findings were based on a legal analysis conducted under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. For his part, Chris Sidoti, a commission member, said the inquiry was based on testimonies from survivors and eyewitnesses, as well as satellite imagery and digital forensic analysis. He said the two-year investigation was based on more than 16,000 verified pieces of evidence, directly linking Israeli military units to attacks on civilians, hospitals, and humanitarian convoys. Sidoti added that the investigation found that specific Israeli army units, and even individual commanders and officials, had ordered attacks on civilians.
US government shutdown
A new report released by American media has warned that about 42 million people are set to lose food aid as the second-longest US government shutdown is nearing the second month. The warning came after at least two dozen states informed food aid recipients their benefits may not be distributed as of Saturday if the federal government shutdown continues for another week. The situation affects those Americans who get aid from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps. Nearly seven million people who receive aid from a nutrition program for women and children will also be affected. Democratic senators have accused President Donald Trump's administration of blocking food aid for millions of Americans after the Agriculture Department said it will not tap into a contingency fund to finance November food benefits. Declaring that “the well has run dry,” the department said it will reserve the fund for responding to natural disasters and other emergencies.
