An Israeli teen has announced that she will be imprisoned this Sunday for refusing compulsory military service, condemning the war in Gaza as a “Holocaust” and describing the Israeli society as complicit in the oppression of Palestinians.

Daniel Schultz stated in a 25-post thread on X on Thursday that her decision was a moral imperative because it is “the most human thing to do.”

“In the face of babies starved to death, entire villages violently uprooted, and civilians sent to torture camps - there is no other choice,” she wrote.

Schultz, who was once a member of the Yesh Atid youth movement and believed the Israeli military was “the world’s most moral army,” said her worldview was shattered upon witnessing the oppression faced by her Palestinian classmates at a mixed boarding school.

The military uniform was “the biggest threat for my classmates and a symbol of their ongoing oppression,” she noted.

She also condemned Israeli society and politics, explaining that the entire political spectrum, from the right to the “Zionist-left,” conditions Palestinian freedom on the so-called Israeli security, a premise she rejects.

An entity “whose security requires an extermination of another people has no right to security,” she said, adding “A people determining itself to commit a Holocaust on another people has no right to self-determination.”

She placed direct responsibility not only on soldiers but on the civil society that supports them.

“After 77 years of occupation and two years of genocide in Gaza, Israeli society still crowns its soldiers as heroes,” she wrote, adding that instead of civil disobedience, Israeli NGOs and citizens have created a “civil backbone” for the war effort.

Schultz highlighted that the root of the issue is Zionism itself, which she labeled a “sadistic national chauvinism.”

She underlined that all of Israel’s institutions are “plagued with murder and bloodlust” stemming from decades of occupation and apartheid.

“Israeli society has no chance for rehabilitation as long as Zionism is its inseparable tenet,” she concluded.

Israel has so far killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians since launching the genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, before a ceasefire deal was reached in the strip earlier this month.
